Across many parts of the world, poor waste management is putting people’s safety at risk, with practices such as the open burning of waste creating a serious health hazard.

Our report on waste - developed in partnership with key stakeholders including the United Nations Environment Programme - will be the second World Risk Poll report to be published in 2024, based on data collected in 2023. Scheduled for publication in September, it will provide a unique global picture of household waste disposal practices, telling us who throws away what, where and how, and what people know about how that waste is then processed. The findings can be used by governments, regulators, businesses, NGOs, and other stakeholders to shape policy and improve waste manage practices to keep people safe.
